What you will need to bring

One of your most important pieces of kit for a nighttime trail run will be a high-quality head torch. Please wear clothing that you are comfortable running in but also suitable for the weather conditions and the significant climatic changes that can take place over the duration of the event at this time of year.

  • Off-road trainers/trail shoes.
  • Headtorch (check this is fully charged)
  • Full body cover (either worn or carried) including waterproof jacket
  • Mobile phone. It can be a vital lifeline in an emergency.
  • Emergency foil space blanket
  • Emergency whistle
  • Enough fluid/nutrition for a 10 mile run

We rely on you using your own experience and judgement about what additional equipment you may want to bring.

Run Route

The 11 mile course is a single loop that will start from Haugh Car Park (300m from Jubilee Hall). The route follows paths and trails as it climbs the top of Simonside Crag before returning to Rothbury.  The course will be marshalled and have reflective marker flags and directional arrows on course. The trails are a mixture of gravel and trail paths with some rocky sections to negotiate, so please note that appropriate trail shoes must be worn, road running shoes will not be suitable for this event.

Water Station

There will be one water station on the course which doubles up as the 3 mile & 8 mile distances.

Run Timing

The event is a non-competitive run but we will record finish times via a scanner at the finishline, a link to the live results will be available on the event website. Please ensure your run number is visible after you cross the finish line. If you drop out of the event at any time after you have registered and collected your run number, then you must go to the nearest checkpoint/marshal or Registration and let them know you are dropping out. We will have a final count of who has finished so if you drop out and don’t notify us then we’ll presume you are missing and a lot of people will start looking for you!

Refreshments at the finish

All finishers can enjoy a complimentary cup of hot spiced wine and throughout the evening Newcastle House Hotel will have a variety of refreshments available to purchase.
